Going to the gym and working out is one of my favorite activities. of course i am too lazy sometimes to go but i usually still do. and i live right of campus basically behing degroat, so its not a far walk at all to get there. the cortland gym sometimes sucks though. it seems like the tredmills are always full and you can never get an open one to use. and i feel like there is always a class or something going on the little studio part so i cant work on abs. but from time to time im able to do both when im there.
I hate that when im running all i do is stare off, and i feel bad because i think that other gym-goers might think im just straight up staring at them but its usually not the case lol. theres nothing really to look at besides all of the people there.
Today when i go, im hoping that it will be kind of dead because its the weekend and most people here are probably still sleeping like i most likely would be. So hopefully they just stay in bed and let me get my work out in. I guess i'll see how it goes.

The Boondock Saints
The Boondock Saints is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's about 2 Irish brothers who get into a fight on St. Patrick's Day at their local bar. The guys that the brothers and a couple of their friends fought were a group of Russians from a Russian mob. They think that they killed the Russians, until they wake up the next morning to the Russians breaking into their apartment to get them. The brothers actually kill them this time and later turn themselves in to the Boston Police. They arent charged with anything because tis considered self-defense.
Since they took the beepers and cell phones of the Russians, one of the brothers checks the message on the beeper and the Russians were supposed to meet with other mob members that day. So the brothers decide to go to this meeting and kill all of them lol. It seems like it would be a pretty graphic movie but its really not that bad. The boys continue on and kill bad people such as murderers, pimps, mobsters, and etc. They become known as The Saints of Boston.
A sequel to this movie just came out a couple weeks ago and i've been dying to see it but just havent had the time yet. I love this movie and could watch it basically everyday.

visiting other school
This past weekend I went to visit one of my best friends at her school. She goes to SUNY Albany, and I had never been there before. So I was really excited to go visit her. She is in the schools a capella singing group called Serendipity. There is absolutely no background music except for the beats that the beat-boxers make. They had a showon Saturday night and it was absolutely amazing. They were all such great singers! And then after the show they usually have an after party at one of the girls' houses, so we went to that. It was a lot of fun and I was able to meet the male a capella group called the Earth Tones. I was able to see them sing in the schools' Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon. They only sang a couple Christmas songs but they were also very talented.
Besdies seeing my friend sing I was also just really excited to go to the school. I've really only visited I think 1 other school besides this, so i was just pumped. Albany is sooo different from Cortland. To go to any house parties you either have to drive yourself or take the city bus and get off at a stop a couple streets away from the house you're going to. And if you don't have an Albany i.d. then you have to pay $1.50 to ride each way. AND the taxi rides are a whole other story. Well everyone knows that Martin's Silver Star Taxi is the best taxi service in America and usually you only get charges $1 per ride. But in Albany, aa taxi's normal rate is about $3-$4 per person. And if you happpen to be riding by yourself it's more like $9. It seems absolutely insane.
But it was really fun to go visit another school and i definitely plan on going back soon.

Finals
'Tis the season for finals to be starting.
This is when students start not giving a shit about school and just focus on when they can go home for christmas break. It's one of the most annoying times of the school year. Midterms aren't really so bad just because you still have another half of a semester to sit through. Finals are kind of sad that you know you're going to be leaving your best friends for just about a month, which always seems like an eternity when you are home.
I am glad to say that i only have 4 finals this semester. Because of my academic writing class, we just have the paper. So my schedule isnt too bad for next week. I get to go home on thursday, which is good because at home I have to be back at work on friday. I can't wait to be home and somewhat stress free from school. I don't think that parents have any idea how stressfull this shit really is. I mean neither of my parents went to college, so they don't have a clue.
And i just love christmas! It's kind of a big holiday for my family. We all get together christmas eve and do a little gift exchange. But once christmas and new years are done with, time goes by realllll slow before it hits time to come back to school. I don't like to rush time, but being home is so annoying. My family just gets on my nerves and i want to punch them all. Summer break is even worse, but usually i'm not really home that much during the summer because of my job.
Well good luck to everyone on finals!

Date Party
So most of the teams/organizations here at Cortland have what you call a "Date Party." It's basically like a semi-formal that you used to have in high school except at a bar. Ours is this coming friday and I'm really excited to go! We usually start off by having dinner and snacks at our house, and take pictures with our friends and dates in front the christmas tree that we have set up. Then after that we are going to Stone Lounge.
The Bar parties are always 18 to get but obviously 21 to drink. This is really good for the girls and guys that either aren't 21 or don't have a fake i.d. Although when you have a huge black X on your hand, you are being watched like a hawk the whole night by the bouncers and the bartenders. Last year I went in as under 21 and i got the X's on my hands. I thought I could be really smooth and wash my hands off in the bathroom a couple minutes after I had been there. But when i asked one of the servers for a drink she asked for my wrist band, and ironically "I couldn't find it" haha, and one of the bouncers saw and told me that i wasnt allowed to wash off the X's in the bathroom lol. So I was caught but they actually didn't do anything to me.
This year however I am still not 21 but i definitely won't be going in as under 21. It's such a hassle. I'm really excited to go, because I'm bringing my good friend Justin that goes here. We usually have fun whenever we go out together so it should be crazy. And there will be so many people from all different frats and sports teams that will be going.
It's kind of like a unified night for all of Cortland. Because no ones cares what organization everyone else is from. Everyone is there just to have a good time and basically get drunk. The $20 to get in kind of puts a damper on it, but it always turns out okkkk :)
If anyone else has a Date Party this weekend, Have Fun! and I'm sure I'll see you out!

remembering an old friend
Four years ago on Novemeber 10th, 2005 there was a death in my town. The boys' name was Bobby Conklin. He was a senior in our highschool and one of our best hockey players. He would no doubt have gone pro if it weren't for this tragic accident. He was on his way to hockey try-outs and had just came from his girlfriends house. They had gotten into a huge fight the day before so he went over there and left a letter on her desk apologizing for everything and saying how much he loved her. And when he left it had been snowing. He was driving around a bend and began to lose control of his car. He was trying to correct himself, and he ended up over correcting. Before he knew it, his car was off the road and hanging from a tree
He had died instantly. This was one of the most tragic accidents to happen in our town. I remember getting the call from my brother about a half hour after it happened. My brother was really good friends with him. When he told me I just couldn't hold back the tears. Yanno its just one of those things that you never expect to hear happen to someone that you're friends with. You hear about car accidents in other towns and cities, but never yours. So when it actually happens its the worst thing. The next day at school was one of the saddest ever. It felt like i was dreaming. It was so surreal that i just wanted someone to pinch me so i would wake up.
That night at his wake, I had never seen so many people there. The line was out the door and down the road. There were so many people that knew him and that were friends with him, that they all came to support his family and his unbelievably heart broken girlfriend.
His family did so well with coping. His hockey number was retired #11. And will never be given again to any hockey player from B'ville. The hockey now wears a patch on there jersey with a #11 and hockey sticks. And on the ice there is a #11 with angel wings. Every year that goes by it still unreal that he is gone. Bobby will never be forgotte. <3#11

Cortacaaaa
This upcoming weekend is one of the best weekends here at Cortland, and im sure at Ithaca as well. It is basically just the biggest shit show you could participate in. There are always soooo many people that come to visit from a ton of different schools. A bunch of my friends from home are coming up to stay with me! And it is even one of their birthdays too which makes it even more of a reason to be reckless.
Having friends come visit for this weekend kind of sucks too. I feel like you just always have to be entertaining them, kind of like babysitting, which is never fun. Sleeping arrangements are always rough too. I remember it used to be so hard having visitors living in the dorm, especially more than 1-2 because there was never enough room unless you planned it for when your roommate was gone haha. I have about 6 friends coming up, so there will probably just be people sleeping all over my apt on the floor. Having that many friends up is always stressful because everyone wants to be doing something different. Half of the group will wanna go to 1 certain bar and the other half is going to want to go somewhere else. I mean were garunteed to be splitting up anyways but its still kind of annoying.
Besides that there is always so much to be doing. There are going to be so many alumni that are coming to visit. Almost all of our girls that graduated in the spring are coming back and i cantttt wait to see everyone. Its going to be so much fun. And i've never been to the game when its been at Ithaca so im pretty excited about that too. It'll be great im sure and the weather is supposed to be real nice so that will make just that much more enjoyable....Have funn ragingggg this weekendddd :)

Living the Dream
Being away at school is one of the greatest freedoms and adventures that anyone coukd go through. I kind of feel bad for those who stick around their home town and go to the community college right near them, or even a 4 year school right by them. I think living away from home is such a great accomplishment. It shows that you are responsible enough to handle your life. Yeah, for freshman and sophmore year you have t ostay on campus, but even still its great to not have to tell your parents/gaurdians where you are at every second of the day.
Of course, just by instinct you're probably going to tell your roomates where you're going but it's just not the same.Being able to come and go as you please is so refreshing to me. I absolutely love it. Especially now that i have an apartment, it makes me feel really grown up ans responsible. I have always been a responsible person but it's different when you're the one actually paying the bills and buying the groceries and etc. I mean i live with my best friend so we kind of feed off of eachother on that kind of stuff. We usually are asking each other for advice on what to do.
Of course it's still weird to not see your parents everyday, but it just makes it thast much better when you do get to see them. I feel like after living away from home and then going back home for like summer and xmas break the rules change. Like when I go home now, I never really tell my parents what i'm doing because now i'm so used to just talking to them every couple of days. I think they probably get mad when I randomly just don't come home one night, but I think they understand? Maybe not but i'm over it. So basically living away at school, we're just livin the dreammm

Thankgiving Break :)
I know that we are just now approaching Halloween, but I for one cannot wait to go home for Thanksgiving. It's about a month away but it's defintely something that i am looking foward to. Going home for this holiday is just awesome. It's the first real tme to kind of spend with your family because usually if you go home for a random weekend it is for a specific reason like work, seeing old friends, or for some other reason. But this is the real chance to actually sit down with your family and have a nice dinner.
That is definitely the second best thing about this break, all of the amazingggg food! You always know that when you go home, your mom is going to make you your favorite meal, but now you basically get double that in one giant feast. After you eat dinner at 2 or 3( I still never understood why thanksgiving dinner was eaten at lunch time?) you go into the living sit down and watch some football. Classic American style day. Of course you are usually to hung over from the previous nights' festivities...a.k.a. the biggest going-out night of the year! Besides that there is so much reunion time with family members. I for one have a huge family and there are always so many of us that we need to catch up on what everyone has been up to.
It is always good to see all of my cousins that have moved away that come back to visit. Most of them usuzlly only come back for christmas but some come back for Thanksgiving.
Going back to the food topic, I love spending the time helping my mom make all of her dishes. It's some good bonding time even though it can get pretty chaotic. I also have the tradition of me always making an apple pie, so I have to work on that as well. Also knowing that christams break is just 2 weeks after we come back from break, which is kind of annoying and a tease but its still great. It sucks that the end of the semester comes so soon, especially since the month we have off for xmas tends to get semi-boring after awhile.
Well anyways

Legalize it
I know that I am just one of the many people who believe that marijuana should be legalized. Not only would it boost our economy but it would just be really awesome. It is already legal for people to smoke it if they have glaucoma, and some types of cancer, so why not make it legal for everyone else? I think one main reason why people don't want it to be legal is because they don't want their kids/family members doing it even more than they most likely already do.
Another reason why this movement should happen is that, it would definitely cut down on the costs of imprisoning people caught with weed, and the tax put on it would help. I recently got a text telling me to call the number that was in the text. So I called it and a recording came on saying that this phone call is to help support Obama's idea of legalizing marijuana. It went on to say how it would boost our economy by having a tax put on it as if it were alcohol. To make my vote count i had to press a couple certain buttons. The recording came back on saying thank you for supporting this movement or whatever. I then fowarded the text to several different people. This definitely helps to spread the word on this topic and see what other people have to say.
Although a lot of these kinds of text messages are just those stupid chain messages, i'm pretty sure that this was legit. i guess there really is no way to tell unless in one of Obama's next speeches he talks about this particular form of advertisement.
So I think marijuana should be legalized not just to make those who smoke it happy, but also to make the economy better in our times of trouble.

Home for Break
Going home for a break from school is so great. Dont get me wrong i absolutely loveeee being at school but going home for 3 days is so great. The only think that sucks is the week of classes leading up to this break. Its the most stressful thing, because all you want to do is leave and go home as fast as you possibly can. And of course you get one of those classes that you absolutely have to stay for(mostly because you have already used up all of your absences so you have to stay). haha But in all seriousness that is the main reason why everyone stays so long when they dont want to.
Then of course the're are the die-hard c.staters that just hate leaving school. So as a result they stay while everyone is home. Living off campus this is easier to do because a lot of the dorms close and you kind of have to leave. Only about half of my friends are actually going home, most of them are staying here because they are going home next weekend? Weird idkk but i'm definitely happy to get out of that little secluded town i usually call home. of course i may go back to school on saturday to keep a good weekend going but who knows.
It's also good to go home on breaks because a bunch of other schools also are on break. Some of my friends from Brockport are coming home and various other schools. Its a good wya to catch up with everyone. Especially since Thanksgiving isnt for another month or so, but then right after that is christmas break but its still great....Have a good break!!

Friends
I know a lot of people have already blogged about this but the friends that you make in your college career will stay with you forever. I remember first semester freshman year, when everyone in your res. hall would go out in one huge group. all the upperclassmen could tell right away that you were a new freshman. Semi-embarassing but still such a great time.
The friends i made that year are still my best friends and they will be for the rest of my life. I couldnt tell you how close we are. After becoming friends we then joined the same sorority and it has been even better since then. It's really weird to say this but i know that the best friends that i have made here will be in my wedding. I mean nothing can compare to my best friends at home either, but im with the people at school for about 8 months out of the year. And im only with my friends at home for the other 4. I dont think we realize how much time we really do spend at college. its weird to think that we spend so much time with these people that we are only really going to be spending around 4 yrs with. After college, do you really stay close with these friends? I think yes just because these friendships will hopefully never diminish.

Halloween
Now that October has arrived, the first thing on everyone's mind is Halloween! It's a great holiday where you can get mass amounts of candy and the ability to dress as rediculous as possible and not get judged. The most important thing to think about is your costume.
As for a costume, many people like to have a group of people to dress as one thing. For example I know people that have dressed up as Baywatch girls, Homewreckers, and also members of Legends of the Hidden Temple. These are all very clever ways of dressing up. A more common way for girls especially to dress up, is as something that is very, how should i say it, yeahh slutty. This is because guys know that girls are going to dress in this manner. Girls know that they can dress this way because everyone else is.
If it was a random weekend night out at Dark Horse and a girl walks in wearing something very revealing, people might just stare and give her weird looks. But on Halloween it's totally normal for this kind of stuff.
Also when i think of Halloween i think of trick-or-treating. I think once you get passed a certain age like 16 or 17, its not really acceptable. I am 20 and i would loveee to go trick-or-treating still. It was always so much fun just running around to different houses in your neighborhood begging for the best and most candy. Although usually the weather was terrible. Let's face it, central New York definitely doesn't haev the best weather during October. Anyways, after you got home, you and your friends or your siblings would dump your pillow cases out and count to see who had the most candy. Of course trading candy would happen, and you might have to give some to your parents(usually the candy you didn't like).
This is also the season to be watching scary movies, or my favorite the 13 days of Halloween on ABC family. They out together by far the best kids halloween movies ever. Mainly Hocus Pocus, or the typical Olsen Twins movies. All are classics. So as far as this wonderful holiday goes, I can't wait! It shall be interesting this year...
Reality Shows
I decided to write about reality shows today. Some reality shows on TV are absolutely rediculous. Starting with the ultimate most stupid show, Flavor of Love. From this funny yet completely rediculous show came many others that just keep taking reality to the next level. All of these trying to conquer one main goal; to find love. Now when does anyone actually find love when put on TV?
Yeahhh not really anyone. Many famous people ( Bret Michaels, New York, Real, and Chance) have tried over and over, yet still nothing. There are however many not famous people that go on the Bachelor and the Bachelorette. Several of these people want; the money for potentially becoming famous, money, and more money.
This also leads to new shows that are all about money. I mean I'm sure everyone could use some, but to go on all of these shows? It seems a little crazy unless of course you actually win.
One show that i definitely do love to watch is the Real World/Road Rules challenges. I always get real into these. They usually bring a lot of comic relief with enough drama so that way you don't need any in your real life. It is also interesting to see all of the different missions that they have. Some are very physical and then there are others that are so challenging mentally, that they may be harder then those physical ones.
I've always had a dream of possibly being on a reality show. One that I could see myself on would be the Real World. However having so much of your personal life being exposed to millions of viewers, and most importantly your parents and family! That's the scary part. It's such a shock to see what all of these carzy people are going to do next. Whether they are going to a local bar, or just sitting around the house, the options are endless. Putting together 7 strangers all cooped up in 1 house can be disasterous. There are so many conflicts that it gets pretty entertaining. But also this show can just suck you right in. It's like if you miss one week of it, your missing one week of your life. Haha not to that extreme maybe but something like that.
So these are my words on Reality TV....until next time

C.State
Many of the students at SUNY Cortland think that this miniscule town is amazing. do you agree?
Living in Cortland is different in every way than living in your home town. Everyone knows the major hotspots of this town. Even as freshmen you know every single bar there is to go to.
Another very big thing in Cortland is definitely its Greek Life. I'm in Alpha Phi and I absolutely love it. Everyone who's involved in greek life is very "patriotic" you could say towards their fraternity or sorority. It's like having a whole other family at school. They are the reason why i want to come back to school when we have christmas break and our summer vacation. It is unfortunate that many cortland goers dislike the greeks. If they only knew what we were really all about they probably wouldnt think such negative thoughts about all of us.
Anyways, the sports teams are definitely the other significant part of this campus. I'm not really too familiar with the girls sports but i know and have many good guy friends from the mens teams. All of the guys are really nice and fun to hang out with. They know how to have a good time. A couple of them happen to be my really good guy friends from my home town, so it makes it that much better to be around them. Many students love to represent the sports teams. For example the football game is going on right now and there are a ton of people there going to just cheer our team on. It's kind of like a unity thing on our campus. Everyone just gets together and forget about everything else, they show some school spirit. It may sound kind of lame but it's true.
So overall Cortland is the best (college) town in America and everyone should want to come here =]. I am absolutely dreading the day that I would have to leave here. I'm only a junior right now so I still have some time.
