Date Party

So most of the teams/organizations here at Cortland have what you call a "Date Party." It's basically like a semi-formal that you used to have in high school except at a bar. Ours is this coming friday and I'm really excited to go! We usually start off by having dinner and snacks at our house, and take pictures with our friends and dates in front the christmas tree that we have set up. Then after that we are going to Stone Lounge.

The Bar parties are always 18 to get but obviously 21 to drink. This is really good for the girls and guys that either aren't 21 or don't have a fake i.d. Although when you have a huge black X on your hand, you are being watched like a hawk the whole night by the bouncers and the bartenders. Last year I went in as under 21 and i got the X's on my hands. I thought I could be really smooth and wash my hands off in the bathroom a couple minutes after I had been there. But when i asked one of the servers for a drink she asked for my wrist band, and ironically "I couldn't find it" haha, and one of the bouncers saw and told me that i wasnt allowed to wash off the X's in the bathroom lol. So I was caught but they actually didn't do anything to me.

This year however I am still not 21 but i definitely won't be going in as under 21. It's such a hassle. I'm really excited to go, because I'm bringing my good friend Justin that goes here. We usually have fun whenever we go out together so it should be crazy. And there will be so many people from all different frats and sports teams that will be going.
It's kind of like a unified night for all of Cortland. Because no ones cares what organization everyone else is from. Everyone is there just to have a good time and basically get drunk. The $20 to get in kind of puts a damper on it, but it always turns out okkkk :)
If anyone else has a Date Party this weekend, Have Fun! and I'm sure I'll see you out!

  1. I love formals and date parties. I looked forward to them every semester. They are a great time to get everybody together and dressed up for a fun evening. On Friday, I have my company Christmas Party, which is the same thing just on a larger scale. Our company rents out a banquet room at Turning Stone Casino, and everybody gets a room for the night. The night includes dinner, dancing, open bar, and gambling afterwords. A bunch of my friends from work are going to Lava afterwords for a drunken dance party. Last year I didn't make it out to the casino floor until the next morning, but I won $200 on roulette so it worked out. Winning money has an odd way of curing a hangover.

  2. I lovee formals too! Talking about going in as 18 is always so funny, cause people have some sort of experience from it or tips on how to "be" 21. From chapstick on your hands to finding the right color bracelet. The first bar party I went to this year was at the Horse. I went in as 18 and ofcourse got the X on my hand. I sat at the bar and ordered drinks and only grabbed them with my left hand. After about an hour of sitting there and getting drinks, the bartender and I were talking about Syracuse football, and Syracuse sports in general. The SU football game was on and they were winning for once but the bartender was poking fun at me. I jokingly fliped him off.. with the hand with the X on it... He laughed and scolded me a little, but I kept getting drinks. At 11 the bar party stops and everyone comes over to check IDs. I devised a genius plan so I could stay. After basically scratching the X off my hand I took my friends bracelet and stuck it back together with gum on my wrist. I got to stay for the whole night, which turns out... probably wasn't the best idea.

  3. We have one of those for our basketball team, but ours isnt coming up until we are done, so that wont be until Febuary. It sounds like a lot of fun, and you seem like you have had a good time in the ones from the past years. I hope you have a lot of fun, and everything turns out good for you.
